About Peter & Son

Peter & Son creates handcrafted indoor and outdoor furniture made in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The business began after the 2021 lockdown, when a change in circumstances opened the door to building honest, durable furniture for real people. Today, Peter & Son is run by Tony Hubscher, supported by a small team of New Zealand makers who share the same commitment to quality and integrity.

We build furniture in small batches or as individual pieces — no mass production, no foreign ownership. Just a local team making things properly, with care and attention in every step.

We work with quality timbers sourced from New Zealand sawmills that process NZ‑grown wood, selecting materials that perform well in our climate and everyday use. All hardware is stainless steel for long‑term durability in New Zealand conditions. The result is furniture that is strong, practical, and designed to last a minimum of 15 years.

Each item — whether indoor or outdoor — is planned with the customer and can be adjusted to suit different sizes, heights, and uses. Our workmanship reflects attention to detail, clear communication, and practical skill in design and construction. The finish is robust, functional, and made for bringing people together.

Peter & Son offers made‑to‑measure furniture at a reasonable cost, built locally and built well.

We look forward to creating something that fits your home, your lifestyle, and the way you gather with the people you care about.

Nga mihi,
Peter & Son Furniture Team

I started Peter & Son in the simplest way possible — selling fish‑filleting benches on the side of the road. They were a big hit, and that little hobby quickly grew into picnic tables, then more complex builds. I put up a basic webpage, kept making furniture, and after some unexpected encouragement from Sir Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, I realised this wasn’t just a hobby anymore — it was becoming a small business with real momentum.

Today I’m supported by a small team, a fine‑woodwork mentor, and a community that has backed me from the beginning. My family, friends, suppliers, and customers have all played a part in helping Peter & Son grow into what it is now, and I’m genuinely grateful for that support.

You’re welcome to visit my small home‑based workshop at 418 Thames Coast Road, Te Puru, Thames. Please call 022‑065‑7638 before visiting to check my availability.

Thank you for supporting local makers. It means a lot to us, and we look forward to building something that fits your home and your life.

Nga mihi,
Tony Hubscher
