Choose this single bay bin and don’t forget to add bin lids to deter birds and keep your composting worms perfectly moist.
These bins, crafted from either macrocarpa or treated pine NZ timber, are built to last and resist rot and decay. No assembly required. With a generous 512-litre capacity and slats that ensure aeration, these four-sided bins are perfect for creating a composting nirvana.

Easy Composting

Getting Started with Composting
Each Peter & Son compost bin bay is crafted from solid wood (pine or macrocarpa) and measures 80cm x 80cm x 80cm. These high-quality composting systems help keep your compost tidy and contained, making them ideal for urban settings. Plus, the larger the bin, the faster your compost will decompose.
-
How to Compost
Alternate layers of green matter (food scraps, manure, fresh grass clippings, weeds without seeds, seaweed, tea leaves, coffee grounds) and brown matter (torn newspaper, cardboard, chopped tree prunings, dry leaves, untreated sawdust, wood ash, twigs). Aim for half green and half brown material.
-
Troubleshooting Your Compost
- Too Wet: Add straw, twigs, or newspaper to balance the moisture. Use a lid to limit rain.
- Too Dry: Use a lid, then sprinkle with water or add more green materials.
- Smelly Compost: Remove the front slats and turn the compost with a spade.
Thank you so much for my second compost
Bin. I brought my first 16 months ago and that is full. Leave for 12 months now I have my second. I love the bins, they are full of worms.
Well made, worth every cent and he delivers if need be. Great product from a great guy.
